For just £30 and three sentences, your idea could win £1000 to bring it to life.
We’re looking for bold, brilliant short film concepts — told with precision, heart, and cinematic clarity.

How it works:
Submit a log line, no more than 75 words, that hooks us from the first word.
Your log line should introduce a compelling protagonist, set up a clear conflict, and hint at the stakes or resolution — all within three sharp sentences.

The prize:
-
£1000 to fund your next short film.
-
If successful, I will personally provide two days worth of editorial oversight for your project if you need it at either the post-production or pre-production phase.
-
Your log line will also receive personalised feedback.
What we're looking for:
-
A character we instantly care about.
-
A world we immediately want to step into.
-
A clear, urgent dilemma that drives the story forward.
-
An outcome that leaves us needing to know what happens next.
This isn’t about long treatments or pitch decks.
It’s about raw storytelling power, in just a few words.

Big dreams. Small format. Let's go.
So who am I?
Hi, I’m Ash White, a Birmingham-born film and television editor and professional silly man with over fifteen years of experience telling stories on screen.

Over the years, I’ve edited more than one hundred hours of broadcast television, beginning in factual before making the move into scripted work. I specialise in comedy and I’ve had the privilege of editing shows like the BAFTA-winning Stath Lets Flats, as well as Dreaming Whilst Black and Boarders. In 2023, I was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award for Best Editing in a Comedy and Entertainment Programme.

None of this would be possible without my mentor Robin Hill, he was bold enough to take a chance on me as his assistant at the start of my career.

I launched The Open Short Film Fund because I know how important a first opportunity can be. I want to support new ideas and new voices — and help filmmakers take that vital next step toward making something of their own.
